Summer 2016 – Winchester lost it’s local grocery store.
Fall of 2017 – A town hall meeting was held to discuss the interest in having a another local grocery store. Based on the large turnout, a committee was formed to do a demographic study of the local market to determine the viability of a new store.
Fall of 2018 -After over a year of planning and laying the groundwork, we celebrated our grand opening in the fall of 2018. The idea behind GSCM was to match the size and scope of the store to needs of the local, rural, market. In practice, that means providing a comprehensive but streamlined inventory with minimal overhead.
Fundraising for the store began in March of 2018. Through the amazing support for the store and generosity of the community, we were able to raise $90,000 in a month and a half. Renovations at 11 E. Market Street started on April 19th, 2018 and concluded in late August 2018 with an outpouring of local support from contractors and local businesses. We opened our doors the community on August 24th, 2018.
We are community-owned and focused on providing an essential service – making groceries, meats, and fresh produce available locally. Every thriving small town needs a grocery store, and we are proud to be a part of the resurgence of Winchester’s town square.
